Step-By-Step Instructions:
1. Open a New Document in Photoshop. Set height/width to 300x300.
2. Create a new layer. Name it "Rose". Using the Pen Tool, draw a spiral as shown below:
3. Select the Brush tool. Make sure that the size of the brush is set to the thickness that you want for the outline drawing of your rose. In this tutorial, we used a size of 5.
4. With the Path Selection Tool selected, right click the path. Click "Stroke Path". Click OK.
5. The "Stroke Path" box appears. Make sure the Tool dropdown box is set to "Brush". Click the "Simulate Pressure" checkbox. Click OK.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 a couple more times to further increase the appearance of the line for the rose. The result should look similar to the image below:
7. Click the Delete key to remove the spiral path.
8. Click Ctrl+T to enter Free Transform Mode. Use the bottom/middle shape handle to squeeze up the drawn outline so that it is more oval shaped.
9. Using the Pen Tool, draw the bottom of the rose as shown below:
10. Select the Brush tool. Make sure that the size of the brush is set to the thickness that you want for the outline drawing of your rose. In this tutorial, we used a size of 5.
11. With the Path Selection Tool selected, right click the path. Click "Stroke Path". Click OK.
12. The "Stroke Path" box appears. Make sure the Tool dropdown box is set to "Brush". Click the "Simulate Pressure" checkbox. Click OK.
13. Repeat steps 11 and 12 a couple more times to further increase the appearance of the line for the rose. The result should look similar to the image below:
14. Click the Delete key to remove the path for the bottom of the rose.
15. Create a new layer. Name it "Color".
16. With the "Color" layer active, choose a color for your rose and paint in the rose with the Brush tool.
17. Select the "Rose" layer so that it is active again. Using the Pen tool, draw a curvy line for the stem just below the bottom of the rose.
18. Select the Brush tool. Make sure that the size of the brush is set to the thickness that you want for the outline drawing of your stem. In this tutorial, we used a size of 5.
19. With the Path Selection Tool selected, right click the path. Click "Stroke Path". Click OK.
20. The "Stroke Path" box appears. Make sure the Tool dropdown box is set to "Brush". Click the "Simulate Pressure" checkbox. Click OK.
21. Repeat steps 19 and 20 a couple more times to further increase the appearance of the line for the rose. The result should look similar to the image below:
22. Using the Pen tool, draw a couple of paths for the leaves on the stem.
23. Select the Brush tool. Make sure that the size of the brush is set to the thickness that you want for the outline drawing of your leaves. In this tutorial, we used a size of 3.
24. With the Path Selection Tool selected, right click the path. Click "Stroke Path". Click OK.
25. The "Stroke Path" box appears. Make sure the Tool dropdown box is set to "Brush". Click the "Simulate Pressure" checkbox. Click OK.
26. Repeat steps 24 and 25 a couple more times to further increase the appearance of the line for the rose. The result should look similar to the image below:
27. With the "Color" layer active, choose a green color for your leaves and paint in the leaves with the Brush tool.
28. Next choose a darker green as your color. Zoom in and paint the shadows on the right side of the leaves to give them some shading.
29. Repeat step 28, but for the rose. Choose a darker color of the rose to add shadows to the right side of the rose to give shading.
30. When you are done, you should have your rose.
31. Optional: Try repeating this tutorial to create multiple roses in order to create a batch of roses.
