Mac Version of Swift 3D 5.0 Now Available
Designers use Swift 3D to author and export vector and raster-based 3D animations to Adobe Flash format. It's popular as an authoring tool for designers who prefer its drawing tools and interface to those of Flash itself. Swift 3D can also export to video and common vector-based formats, such as Adobe Illustrator and EPS, making it appropriate for a wide variety of workflows.

Version 5.0, released for Windows in August, 2007, extended this by adding export support of complex scenes with objects, animations, cameras and lights to the 3DS format, which can be used by many 3D applications, as well as Photoshop CS3 Extended. Amongst other enhancements was 3D scene and animation export to XAML (Extensible Application Markup Language), providing simulated 3D support for the Microsoft Silverlight online media platform, as well as the WPF desktop platform.

This is now extended in Swift 3D 5.0 via export support for Papervision3D, an open source 3D engine for Flash that leverages ActionScript 3.0 and the Flash 9 player to draw true 3D and provide real-time user interaction. It employs the XML-based COLLADA file format to define model geometry, with that information rendered live via the Papervision3D component within the Flash Player. Version 5.0 can also convert existing models in the 3DS and DXF file formats into Papervision3D projects, creating all the necessary ActionScript 3.0, FLA, and 3D files to run the project without the need for hand coding. According to Mike Soucie, CEO of Electric Rain, "Real-time 3D rendering in Flash has always been the dream, and we’re very excited to finally enable our users to begin working with this cutting-edge Papervision3D technology.”

Swift 3D 5.0 for Mac and Windows can be purchased on the Electric Rain site for $249. A trial version of the Windows version is available, with a Mac trial anticipated.
