![]() The Starving Artist edition of Side Effect Software's 3D animation package has dropped the addition of intrusive watermarks. While free or modestly-priced versions of high-end 3D creation and animation apps are now common, watermarks are typically added to saved creations to keep users from simply using these packages to avoid buying the commercial product. However, watermarks and other limitations inhibit the use of such applications and the distribution of resulting artwork and animation. Side Effect Software is thus breaking new ground in dropping the addition of watermarks to work created with its Houdini package, a popular solution for visual effects artists, technical directors and CG supervisors. The new High Definition Houdini Apprentice package is a $99 version designed for artists and enthusiasts who want to develop personal CG projects and portfolios. It will render still images at any resolution and animations at a maximum resolution of 1920x1080, using the same non-commercial file format as Houdini Apprentice. Apprentice is a free version that renders images at lower resolution and applies watermarks to work, typically used in an educational environment. More information and downloads for Windows or Linux are available on the Side Effect Software site. Set as favorite Bookmark
